Reports of our death.....

First of all sorry about the lack of posts, it's been a tough week.

The action item for today is to call or e-mail the German embassy and back up Prime Minister Angela Merkel over her warning concerning caving into islamists over an opera.

Considering the war we are fighting a good patron Saint for today would be St. Joan of Arc:

St. Joan, at a tender age you help drive back the English invaders from your land. Give us the strength of our faith to stand up to those who would slay us. Remember in your prayers those brave men and women who are protecting us from those who wish to see us dead.

We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Quick note:

I will try to manage 5 posts a week but I do this along with everything else I do so I can't promise more than that.

Now for the action item for this weekend. It's really easy and it's personal. The action item is to not let the reports true or false of Bin Laden's death make you complacent. As I said in my first post, radical Islam is a lot like a Mafia family. The death of the head of a single family doesn't mean the mob has closed shop.

Now for the prayer. With all of the worries we've been dealing with, this whole blog is a very heavy topic lets go a little lighter.

Oh Lord you have blessed us with our lives, hear our prayer and help us to notice even in times of trouble all the good and pleasant things we have every day from our cup of coffee in the morning, the company of our family and friends, a TV show we enjoy or a little snack or even the view from our window. Help us to recognize these small gifts in our world of trouble and let them energize us as we face the challenges ahead. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Today's action item is media related:

There was a huge protest in NYC yesterday against the Iran of Ahmadinejad. His actions and the actions and sponsorship of Iran represent the single best chance for the disaster I fear to take place.

25,000 people showed up, and one newspaper reports it. That's it. Nobody decided it was important enough to cover. The action item for today is to call your local paper and ask them: Why didn't you cover this event? Where is your story?"

25,000 people protesting at the UN isn't newsworthy?

If you didn't hear about it yourself, you should check here, here , here, here and here.

Hat tip Instapundit.

Today's prayer will be appropriate for a Jewish audience.

Lord, you called Amos to prophesy from tending the flock and the sycamore. Help us to warn our brothers of the danger before us. Give us the strength and the courage to proclaim this to all we see that your people whom you have chosen and all those who love you may live in peace.

Today's action item is a pretty easy one:

Read or watch this first rate talk by Irshad Manji from the Free Speech segment of the CBS Evening News, money quote:

We Muslims should remember that God told the Prophet Muhammad to "read." My advice to fellow Muslims: Read the pope's speech — in its entirety — and you'll see that his message of reason, reconciliation, and conversation would make him a better Muslim than most of us.
This is EXACTLY the type of person who needs to be encouraged, supported and congratulated. The action item for today is to do so. E-mail the author, leave a comment at the CBS site where this is posted. Vist her web site and show her support. You don't have to agree with everything she says or believes to do so.

It is the courage of people like her that gives us the best chance to avert disaster.

Because of today's post I'm going to try to write a prayer that would be acceptable for a Muslim. I claim absolutely no expertise in this endeavor as I've only read the Koran once. If any Muslim reader can suggest a better one feel free to include it in comments.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the merciful:
Your ways are the true ways. Through the prophet you told us that you are ever disposed to mercy. Hear our plea that our brothers may remember these words and extend that same mercy to others. Let them in the Salah find the restraint to their passions and through the Zakat show by example to the world of the unbeliever the Glory of Islam and to avoid violence that is the trap of Satan, the condemned.

Today is election day in my neck of the woods, so our action item for the day is elections:

  1. If you have an election in your area, VOTE. Support candidates who recognize the threat and intend to act upon it.
  2. If there is not an election where you are, write your member of congress. Spell out your concerns and give them a chance to answer them, be fair, base your actions in the fall on what they say and do, not what somebody else tells you. Be informed! You can't make a wise decision in any other way.

And now today's prayer, this one is should be acceptable to non-Catholic Christians:

Lord Jesus you invited your followers to pick up their crosses. Help us to accept that invitation. Give us the strength to move forward in the dark days ahead. Help us to change the hearts of our foes and those who support them, through the example of our acts. Give us the words to persuade those who walk shoulder to shoulder with darkness. And touch our hearts so that we may do this with the respect and love for our neighbor that is required of us. Amen.

Ok lets get started.

Michelle Malkin asked:

Who will stand up and say without equivocation:

"I support the Pope."
This blog does.

Suggested action item for the day:

Write your local newspaper to object to the violence being done against Islam against Christians over the published out of context remarks of the Pope.

If there is a local protest by Islamists against the pope, consider counter protesting. I stress consider. Make sure you have a least a few people with you. I don't want you out there alone if there is no protection against an angry mob of barbarian supporters.

Now a suggested prayer, I'll try to publish one each day, since I'm Catholic I'll start with a Catholic prayer, but I'll try to come up with a proper prayer for any Christian, Jewish or Islamic denomination, (prayer suggestions would be welcome in comments, they should be consistent with the goals of this blog). The proper patron saint in such a situation would be in my opinion St. Michael the Archangel:

St. Michael you drove Satan's legions into the pit when they rebelled against God. Stand by us today to give us the strength of our faith. Support us as we stand with the holy father under threat. Give us the courage to speak out against those who would silence and terrorize those who stand with Christ, and help us to do this, not in anger but in love.

We ask this as we ask for all thing in Christ's name:

Oh great just what's needed in the world another blog.

Well actually yes.

I've been following the news lately and it looks very much like we are heading for the point where an all out war with Islam is coming.

Time seems to be running out for Islam to reform itself and purge the barbarians in its midst. The few encouraging signs by some leaders seem not enough to stem the tide that seems to be building.

If Islam refuses to reform and the radicals dominate the religion the question will come down to this. Will we act before some kind of WMD is used upon us?

If we act before then it will be hard but we might be able to save one of the world's leading religions from devouring itself. If we don't then the other hand that the west has held behind it back will come out and a war of slaughter will ensue that will make WWII look like a cakewalk.

In the end I have no doubt that in such a war the west will win, but the price for stopping those who would shackle us will be so high in blood that it will stain our hearts and souls.

My sons are in their teen years now. Unless something changes and fast they will end up having to fight this war. So the time to act is now.

When I look at what is happening in Islam today it reminds me of the movie "The Godfather".

Moderate and modern Islam is under siege by a group trying to dominate and control. It doesn't really want this control, it came to the west to get away from the shackles, yet it can't break the bonds of kinship to those who wish to control it

  • They speak the same language.
  • They share the same the same culture.
  • they are uncles and cousins.
  • They have relatives in the old country who are in the same business.
  • When they show strength and the west backs down they respect and feel pride in that strength.

and most important of all

  • They know their lives aren't worth a plug nickel if they stand alone against it.
  • They risk rejection by their family, friends and disgrace to their families.

I'm just an old married man trying to support his family, I can't do much alone but I think that there is something that can be done it consists of two things.

Prayer and Action

Let's start with part II of the plan first ACTION. I list this first so that those who do not follow any religion can see what I propose. What is necessary is positive action.

We have to provide moral support to those within Islam who are trying to reform it.

We have to condemn those who are murdering and burning in the name of Islam

We have to say out loud that those who murder in the name of a religion are barbarians and refuse to equivocate on "root causes" while murder is being committed, let us avoid the BUT.

We need to eschew any short term political or social gain that an aliance with Radical Islam or those who support it might provide.

We have to call on our media both print and video and our leaders both secular and religious to hold Islam to the same civilized standard that is expected of any other religion or movement both within our land and outside.

If we want a free secular state that welcomes all religious people to practice their beliefs freely without fear (and allow those with no religion to practice nothing) we have to have the courage to stand up and demand it.

The action you choose is your own, A vigil for those killed in a suicide bombing, a counter protest to those who demand special privilege or support groups who are violent, or a simple letter to the editor or congressman or woman, but take action. Even the smallest action can make a difference. Mine is going to be this blog.

Now for part I PRAYER. I am a Roman Catholic but it doesn't matter what religion you belong to, Christian, Jew, Moslem, Buddhist etc. If you believe in some sort of GOD odds are prayer is part of that relationship. Let us use that power of prayer to make a difference. Let us not be afraid to call on God to help.

  • Let us pray to change the hearts of those who attempt to corrupt a proud religion.
  • Let us pray that God strengthen and support those in Islam standing up for peace.
  • Let us pray that God will give us the courage to speak out and not be silent as this evil attempts to overwhelm us and its allies and doubters scorn and embarrass us.
  • Let us pray that our leaders both spiritual and temporal will have the strength to speak and act against this evil.
  • Let us pray for the innocent who are caught in the middle of this struggle.

In my opinion the window we have here is small. If we don't use the power that we have through prayer and action we will end up with two choices. War or submission. Both of those options frankly stink. Lets do what we can to avoid them both.
